On Power Corrupting

The classic and most often quoted statement regarding power was written by Lord Acton:

“All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Will and Ariel Durant stated it better in The Story of Civilization, Volume 11, The Age of Napoleon:

“Power dements even more than it corrupts, lowering the guard of foresight and raising the haste of action.”
